Same Place, Different Journey

Same Place, Different Journey (2025)

Same Place, Different Journey was a nationally commissioned work I created at Rutgers University, featuring 12 powerful dancers. This piece was rooted in their stories where each dancer arrived from a different place, carrying their own culture, family history, dance background, and personal journey. The work explored what it means to bring all of that individuality into a shared space, where differences weren’t just welcomed, but uplifted. Through movement, storytelling, and deep listening, the dancers built a sense of community that radiated on stage. Their energy, their vibe with one another was incredible to witness. You could feel that they had done the work to see and hear each other, and that made the piece not only beautiful, but deeply meaningful.

Same Place, Different Journey at MLK Celebration (excerpt)

In honor of Coretta Scott King’s legacy, we explored what it means to come together in shared space where our differences are not just seen but uplifted. This work is a celebration of unity, activism, and the joy that Mrs. King embodied in both her art and her life.
