Kia the Key & Company’s lecture demonstration will invite participants, first-time dancers and experienced movers alike, to dive into the various forms of Hip-Hop and street styles as Shakia provides engaging historical and cultural context. Shakia and her dancers will enliven the lecture demonstration experience by teaching the participants movement, leading them through an exchange with each other, and creating a joyful and generous social dance setting from the energy of the esteemed company dancers. This lecture demonstration will give the participants tools to not only take away an expanded understanding of Black dance/music history and culture but also enjoy themselves while doing so! Kia the Key & Company has shared Lecture Demonstrations at NAACP’s Berkshire Country Juneteenth Celebration, Smith College’s Cromwell Day, and Jacob’s Pillow Community Day.
