One World

One World (2025)

One World was a piece I choreographed during a winter residency at Skidmore College, and from day one, it was clear this cast represented a truly global mix of backgrounds. We began the process by sharing where we. and our families are from, and the range was beautiful and wide. That sparked deep conversations about identity, culture, and connection, and from there, One World began to take shape. We imagined the piece as a living map, which was reflected in the spacing, formations, and choreography. This captured the complexities and beauty of our “world-wide-ness.”

To deepen the work’s impact, I co-created an original soundscore with composer Carl Landa , using recordings pulled directly from our rehearsal space. I layered in my own beatboxing, rhyming, and spoken word, while inviting the dancers to contribute their voices. Together, we created a soundscape that radiated innovation and embodied the spirit of collaboration. This wasn’t just a dance, it was artwork that honored culture, voice, and connection. The heart of the piece is this: no matter where we come from, we are still in One World, moving together, learning from one another, and holding space for our differences and commonalities all at once.
