Community Workshops

Community Workshops

As the Founder and Artistic Director of Kia the Key & Company, I offer free community workshops that focused on sharing the dance form of Hip-Hop through interactive education and performances to create a greater sense of community. The Gathering: Kia the Key & Company Community Workshop consisted of an 80 minute movement experience, open to and designed for participants of all ages. Participants were led through dance movements while receiving cultural and historical context about the origins of the Hip-Hop dance form alongside short, exciting performances by members of Kia the Key & Company. Each workshop concludes with a cypher, where participants have the opportunity to dance alongside the company. They are able to showcase what they have learned and fulfill one of the highest values of this cultural practice, celebrating each other through dance and music!

The Gathering Workshops

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Greenfield, Springfield, Northampton, and South Hadley local cultural councils, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
