The Beats un Our Heart | Funkadelic Hip-Hop Dance Company Production (2018)
Funkadelic Hip-Hop Dance Company’s second show under my Artistic Direction, The Beats in Our Heart, celebrated Street dance as a force of community, healing, and identity. With choreography created by both my students and me, this concert brought together powerful storytelling, deep grooves, and emotional expression across a range of styles and themes. In this evening of dance, we explored Hip-Hop’s roots from the streets of the South Bronx to the ancestral sounds and movement of Africa, revealing its evolution as a tool for joy, resistance, and self-expression. The Beats in Our Heart was a reminder of how dance keeps us connected, empowered, and alive. In this show, every movement was a heartbeat. Every beat told a story. And every story was ours.
