Hip-House (Hamilton College) 2025
Hip-House was a national commission I created at Hamilton College and PVPA school in South Hadley, MA. This was a student centered version of one of my major choreographic works. In just three days, these students rose to the challenge with heart and hunger. This piece blends the foundational movements of Hip-Hop and House dance, but what made this process so special was how it centered the dancers’ own styles and specialties. I took time to learn how each of them liked to move, what they connected to, and used that as fuel for the choreography. The result was a powerful blend of foundational technique, individuality, and community. Each dancer brought their voice to the work, and together they created a celebration of culture, connection, and authentic expression.
