Win in Doubt

Win in Doubt at Mount Holyoke College (2019)

Created for students at both Mount Holyoke College and Smith College, Win in Doubt is a powerful choreographic work that explores themes of trauma, struggle, persistence, and celebration. Playing on the phrase “when in doubt,” the work conveys that even in times of uncertainty, we can find strength and triumph. As part of the creative process, students engaged in writing exercises reflecting on times of hardship and resilience. Each dancer contributed a line from their personal poem, using it to generate movement phrases that became integral to the choreography. Their voices are woven in the work, offering a raw and honest glimpse into how we survive and thrive through doubt.

Shakia Barron, Five College Lecturer, is creating a new work around trauma, struggle, persistence and celebration. Barron brings a deep awareness of Hip-Hop’s history and cultural implications to Smith College, in addition to her visceral, energetic choreographic style. ~Melinda Buckwalter, Smith College Dance Administrative Assistant
